COVID-19 Update & Policy
15 November 2021
Let’s keep sailing!
We’d like to update you on Spirit of Adventure response plan to the COVID-19 pandemic and how the ship will operate under the COVID-19 protection framework incorporating the traffic light system.
It is important to note that under The Government protection framework, the ship is unable to sail at all unless we operate using the vaccination certification framework. Therefore we appreciate your understanding in the need for us to introduce the following policies with regard to joining a voyage.
Our voyages bring people from all over the country into an enclosed environment which is at sea for up to 10 days. It is necessary for us to look after the health of our rangatahi (young people) and crew through vaccination and testing.
OUR COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY
From the time that New Zealand moves to the COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system) at midnight 2 December, we will require all students to be fully vaccinated to join a voyage.
Under the COVID-19 protection framework we must operate a vaccination certificate policy in order to operate under any of the traffic light colours. See here for more information about businesses who must comply with vaccination policy.
- To attend your voyage, you will be required to please provide proof of full vaccination (two doses) a minimum of two weeks prior to your voyage
- You will be sent a link where you will be required to upload a copy of your vaccination certificate
- We may request to see your vaccination passport before boarding the ship.
BEFORE YOUR VOYAGE – COVID-19 TEST
We require all participants to obtain a negative COVID-19 test no less that 72 hours prior to your voyage departure.
Due to the enclosed environment on board the ship and the potential for a virus to transmit easily, we must to our utmost to keep the virus from the ship. This means we will require an extra layer of protection in having all participants obtaining a negative COVID-19 test prior to joining a voyage.
- To attend your voyage, you will be required to please provide proof of a negative COVID test which has been taken no more than 72 hours prior to your voyage
- You will be sent a link where you will be required to upload proof of your negative test result
- Find out how to get a test here.
IF YOUR VOYAGE IS AFFECTED BY COVID-19
Before the voyage starts
If your voyage is unable to go ahead due to COVID-19 (e.g. Alert Level change in your region or you contract COVID-19), we will offer an unconditional transfer of your booking to a later date within 12 months, or hold your booking in credit for 12 months from the original voyage date. Please note due to the volatility of the pandemic, we do not offer refunds, only voyage transfers and voyage credit. All other Spirit of Adventure Trust T&Cs apply.
During your voyage
Should your voyage come to an end as a result of COVID-19 and you have completed less than 50% of the voyage, you will be eligible for a 50% refund of your voyage fee. Travel costs are excluded from any eligible refunds.
SUSPECTED COVID-19 CASE
If at any time during a voyage the crew identifies a person to be symptomatic, they will tested (at the nearest available port).
Should the test come back positive, the person will be required to return home to isolate (Spirit of Adventure Trust will not be liable for travel costs). All remaining participants will be closely monitored for symptoms.
