The trainees were up early for a swim in warm water and following some learning, had a splendid sail, tacking among the islands on a sunny day with a pleasant breeze. Another popular swim and anchored for the night.
Log: 09 JANUARY
We had a great sail in fresh winds this morning followed by beach games and beach clean in the rain for the afternoon. We are now anchored in a really sheltered spot in Bay of Islands for the night and ready for tomorrow if the weather gets worse.
Log: 10 JANUARY
All trainees are well and have enjoyed a day of information and challenging games on board. Heavy rain today which has now largely stopped. We're still at anchor at the beautiful Parekura Bay and expect to be sailing tomorrow with the forecast for lighter breezes.
Log: 11 JANUARY
After all the trainees climbed to the masthead this morning, we had a great sail to Whangaruru Harbour for anchorage. Winds were fresh, the dolphins came to play and the remaining swell tested a few stomachs as we rounded Cape Brett.
Log: 12 JANUARY
An early start, great sailing at 10 knots in 25 knot winds, and arrived at Gt Barrier in time for a swim.
Log: 13 JANUARY
Trainees ashore for a long tramp at Fitzroy. A few showers.
Log: 14 JANUARY
A wonderful sail from Great Barrier to Coromandel. We had every sail set (14) and spent 2 hours sailing in silence, no one spoke and all generators and engines turned off. Anchored for the night in Te Kouma Harbour.
Log: 15 JANUARY
Cleaned the ship fully, went sailing, short tacking with trainees working in all areas. New crew elected and now anchored at Ponui island with the trainees taking over.
