Log: 26/2

We have loaded all the stores we need for 10 nights, had safety tours, practiced donning life jackets and met 38 other trainees. Then it was time to cast off the mooring lines and head out to Motuihe Island for the first night of Voyage 912. The adventure has begun .......

Captain's Log: Day 3

Log: 28/2

Waking up to an early morning swim and a hearty breakfast, after the first night of sleep on the ship, was a great way to liven everyone up and ready them for a busy day of learning. Safety talks, basic rope handling then setting their first sails and sailing off to Tukituki Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula. We did a couple of tacks before the wind died out while we were still in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf so we made the most of the opportunity to strike all the sails and go for a swim in 35m of water. the middle of the Hauraki Gulf. Friendships and teamwork are developing nicely.

Today we have moved to Motuwhakakewa Island and are launching rafts to go paddling and swimming around it, exploring the amazing rock formations, without landing. After lunch when the wind picks up we will be setting sail for Great Barrier Island.

Captain's Log: Day 4&5

Log: 2/3

On day 4, we spent the morning sailing, after lunch we set out on the rafts ready for a beach clean up at Port Abercrombie, and afterwards got a cheeky tow back to the spirit where we finished our day of adventure with a much needed swim, then set sail for Port Fitzroy

Then on day 5, we started our morning off with a quick swim and speedy breakfast to start the day off right before paddling out to Kaikoura Island where a huge adventure awaited us. We spent our time trailing through the beautiful native bush, playing games on an airstrip and appreciating the breathtaking views. We ended our day with a banger pool party and our lovely captain even got the rope swing out for us for some cheeky backflips. Everyone is absolutely smashing it, the vibes are high and were all a little family.

Captain's Log: Day 8

Log: 5/3

It has been a busy couple of days here on the ship. We have been out sailing in the small sailing boats that we call luggers, have climbed to the very top of the mast, ashore for dinner, games on deck while sailing the ship from Great Barrier to Waiheke Island, learning leadership skills and we even ran a mini Olympic games evening full of laughter and team spirit! The trainees are gathering all the skills and information that they can in preparation for Trainee Day (where they take over the ship) which starts later on today. This is an exciting day!!
