This special 5 Day voyage provides an opportunity for physically challenged young New Zealanders to take part in an adventure of a lifetime. Thirty young people from across the country, aged 16-20 years, come together to face challenges outside of their usual boundaries, gaining confidence and achieving tasks that previously might have looked impossible.
The annual Inspiration voyage is sponsored by the combined Lions Clubs of New Zealand, led by the Karori Lions Club. We take thirty physically challenged young people to sea on this special 5 Day voyage.
Inspiration voyage participants are partnered with a support person (usually one to three ratio). Support personnel are recruited from experienced Spirit volunteers who have participated in 10 Day voyages. They offer support and personal assistance to the participants as required.
The ship operates around the New Zealand coast throughout the year and may sometimes be away from immediate medical support (the ship’s crew are fully trained in marine first aid). The 5 Day programme can at times be mentally and physically demanding with activities including sailing, swimming and some shore-based activities.
The voyage is not suitable for applicants:
If any of the above raise concerns or you would like to discuss private details, please call the Spirit office on 09-373 2060.
Your Voyage should be a wonderful and memorable experience. To ensure safety and harmony for all on board we require the following standard of behaviour to be observed. You accept that Spirit of Adventure Trust reserves the right to remove you from the Ship should any of the below not be complied with. Note: as a result, any costs you incur will not be covered.

All participants must declare if they have been in contact with an infectious disease. Where required and if needed for medical advice on the participant, all participants give permission for Spirit of Adventure Trust to contact the GP/medical specialist who signed the participants’ medical forms,

Most of our voyages are unisex. All activities are done as a team, but we do have separate living areas and bathrooms for male and female paticipants (20 on each side of the ship). More info ->
For each voyage type, there are some medical and general criteria that you will need to meet. These vary depending on the voyage type that you will find on the specific voyage page on our website. You heard right :-) We do take all mobile and electronic devices off participants on our 10 Day and 5 Day voyages. This is so you can fully engage in the programme, plus you will be way too busy anyway (switch off - to switch on!).The ship is in daily contact with the Spirit office, so if an urgent message needs to be sent through, we can easily make that happen. And your friends and family can follow the ship here, so they know where you are!
