We’re stoked you’re considering joining Spirit as a volunteer!
To get the process underway, there are a few things we’ll need from you — including a police vetting check through NZ Police. This can take up to six weeks to process, so it’s the first step in your application. You can download the form below.
Important: Please complete page 4 only of the Police Vetting Consent Form. Our volunteer team will complete the remaining sections.
Before starting your application, please have the following ready:
Completed Police Vetting Form (page 4 only)
Two forms of ID (one must be photo ID). Acceptable forms include:
Driver Licence
Passport
NZ Birth Certificate
NZ Citizenship Certificate
NZ Firearms Licence
Maritime NZ ID
Coastguard ID
Details of two referees who can support your application (e.g. teacher, employer, family friend, kaumātua).
Once we receive everything, we’ll begin processing your application and will reach out again once your Police Clearance comes through.
Volunteer spaces on the ship are filled through an intake process.
Once your volunteer application has been fully processed and approved, you will be eligible to register for voyages.
We open volunteer intakes three times per year — May, August, and November. Each intake includes a new set of voyage dates, and you will have 20 days to register your interest in your preferred voyages.
At the close of the intake period, applications are reviewed and you will be advised of the outcome of your voyage registration.
You will receive an email each time registrations open, inviting you to apply for the upcoming voyages.
May Intake – for voyages taking place in September, October, November, and December
August Intake – for voyages taking place in January, February, and March
November Intake – for voyages taking place in April, May, June, and July
