Voyage 926A is underway — the adventure has begun! After loading all the food and water needed for the voyage, we let go the mooring lines and motored up to the south side of Whangaparaoa Peninsula, where we anchored for our first night. The trainees are settling in, getting to know the ship, and beginning to form friendships with the other 39 trainees. Their excitement and inquisitiveness are a great sign of what’s to come. This will be fun! But first… the chores.

What an awesome day we had, learning to safely climb the mast, what ropes to pull to put the sails up, playing team building games and an afternoon swim. We set 7 sails and sailed up to Mahurangi harbour achieving 8 knots of boat speed. There is a lot of laughter and chatter onboard, eating lots of yummy food and keeping very busy.

We had an epic day yesterday - spending the morning ashore playing games and enjoying the sand on the beach. The afternoon saw us become proper sailors, learning how to tack the ship and zig-zag our way up and down the coast.
Today, the weather has changed and we've donned our orange gear for a spot of marine mammal spotting in the rain. The rest of our day will be filled with fun indoor games, sheltering from the weather.
